A new grant program in Florida awards up to $5000 dollars to certain entrepreneurs who meet the eligibility criteria.
According to information published on the official site of Miami Dade County, the initiative has been promoted by county mayor Oliver G. Gilbert, III.
This is a program launched for small Mom and Pop businesses in the region that would only be eligible if:
- The business is located in District 1
- It must have been in operation since January 2024
- It must be a for-profit business
- The business must have a physical address
The money can be directed to various needs of the small business such as the purchase of supplies and business equipment, as well as for other marketing and advertising purposes, building and business insurance, the sum of money could also be used, the county indicates, in some minor renovations either interior or exterior, the improvement of security systems for commercial properties.
Likewise, the cash could be used for leasing or mortgage of commercial properties, the purchase of work vehicles, and in services and professional training.
Application Process
Applications to join the program will be available until March 15, 2024, and can be made online or physically.
If you pick up your printed application physically, you can present yourself at the District 1 Office located at 17988 NW 27th Ave., Miami Gardens, FL 33056, or at the Neighbors And Neighbors Association (NANA) Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall Social and Economic Institute at 5120 NW 24th Ave., Miami, FL 33142.

The county informs that complete applications will be accepted between March 18 to March 25, 2024, before 4 pm at the District 1 Office.
It is clarified that the commission will consider special projects and that home-based businesses can also apply.
Informational Workshop
On March 13, via Zoom, a workshop will be held that will explain the requirements to business owners with ID 863 3460 2978 and access code: 409688. Attendance at the workshop does not guarantee eligibility.
Such initiatives have become quite common in the city.
In the early days of February, another district of Miami Dade launched a program with a $2500 dollar grant for the same purposes, and thus several jurisdictions have already joined.
