For all immigrants residing in the United States, getting ahead is a Herculean task. Among many challenges such as xenophobia, lack of employment, labor exploitation, or illegal status, there are few escapes that can save, or at least help, these individuals.

Some alternatives are implemented by the government with the goal of alleviating the situation of families who have already achieved legal status in the country, but who still lack citizenship or employment. In this case, the Citizenship and Integration Grant Program seems like a good alternative for many of them.

What is the Citizenship and Integration Grant Program?

This program is more than just a medium-scale solution provided by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to the historic migration crisis in the country. The project began in 2009 with the aim of integrating immigrants into American society.

Each year, the program provides around $10 million in grants, which are distributed by more than 40 institutions across the country’s communities.

The program aims to facilitate the naturalization of legal immigrants by teaching them English, U.S. history, and civics, focusing primarily on the most disadvantaged populations, thus fostering social change among them.

According to official data from the institution’s website, since the program’s inception 16 years ago, more than $155 million has been donated to this cause, equating to more than 600 grants distributed through various nonprofit organizations that seek to assist immigrant families.

How can one access these grants?

The deadline for submitting applications for the current year is June 21, 2024. After this date, applicants will need to wait until the following year. Applications can be accessed via this link, where you will find all the information needed to proceed with the application. You can also email the institution at citizenshipgrantprogram@uscis.dhs.gov, where a specialist will respond to any questions you may have.
