The United States immigration policy recently expanded its restrictions on visas for certain individuals, the government reported.

Visa Cancellations for Charter Operators

Visa cancellations will apply to operators of charter, land, and sea flights that provide services to irregular migrants intending to head to U.S. territory.

The northern government indicated that these operators take advantage of migrants by applying extortionate prices.

It also noted that, although these illegal practices are mostly carried out by adults, they often endanger the irregular migrant and their families, who travel to then be subjected to expulsion procedures as indicated by the country’s immigration laws.

“No one should benefit from the situation of vulnerable migrants, whether they are smugglers, private companies, public officials, or governments. We will continue to collaborate with governments and the private sector, both within the region and beyond, to eliminate this practice of exploitation”.

stated the official communiqué of the United States government

Addressing the Migration Crisis

The extension of the visa restrictions in question also responds to attempts to address the unprecedented migration crisis the country is experiencing and for which a solution has not yet been found.

Other governments and individuals, known as coyotes, are generally blamed for human trafficking, when in reality other companies and institutions also bear responsibility in the matter.

Expansion of Restrictions

Therefore, the restrictions were expanded once again under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) intended for owners, executives, and senior officials of charter flight and ground and maritime transport companies that provide their services to irregular migration.

The current provision extends and replaces the 3C policy on Nicaragua concerning charter flights issued in November 2023, in which primarily Cubans and Haitians were transported.
