Several Miami hotels have been included in the Michelin Guide list. Do hotels receive stars just like restaurants?
The Michelin Guide is renowned for selecting the world’s finest restaurants, which are awarded stars based on their quality. But are hotels awarded stars too?
No, in the case of hotels, the Michelin Guide awards Michelin Keys. And that’s precisely what has happened with several hotels in the United States, including some located in Miami.
Just a few hours ago, the new Michelin Guide list for the year 2024 was released, and several Miami hotels were included in this selection.
According to official sources, the stars (in the case of restaurants) and keys (for hotels) are ranked as 3, 2, and 1 based on the rating achieved.
The “Michelin Keys” are awarded to hotel establishments that meet the following criteria:
- Excellence in architecture and interior design
- Quality and consistency of service
- Personality and overall character of the establishment
- Value for money
- Significant contribution to the neighborhood or environment
It was also reported that none of the hotels in Miami achieved the maximum of three keys, however, four hotels received two keys (Mayfair House Hotel & Garden, The Setai Miami Beach, Faena Hotel, and Four Seasons Hotel).
Meanwhile, six received one key (Mandarin Oriental Miami, The Mr. C Miami in Coconut Grove, 1 Hotel South Beach, Esme Miami Beach, Hotel Greystone, and The Betsy – South Beach).
A three-key rating is awarded to hotels that offer an “extraordinary” stay where everything is astonishing, two keys are for those institutions that are “exceptional,” and one key for those that offer a “special” stay.
These evaluations are conducted by a team of experts from Michelin who, after several visits to the hotels, offer their ratings based primarily on the warmth of the welcome, the positive character of the stay, and the high level of service provided.
