Daylight Saving Time (DST) Overview
According to what is established in the country, it corresponds to Daylight Saving Time (DST), which marks the beginning of summer and extends the presence of sunlight during the day.
This change will occur on Sunday, March 10, 2024, and on that day, clocks should be set forward one hour, but this will not happen in all states of the country.
Exceptions to the DST Change
Although most territories adhere to this change, others remain on standard time such as American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Hawaii, and most of Arizona and will not make any change to their clocks.
It is important to remember that since most people in the country have smart electronic devices, they will not need to manually make the change as these devices do so automatically.
End of DST in 2024
DST will be in effect until November 3, 2024, when winter time begins, and clocks should be set back by one hour.
The Purpose and Debate Surrounding DST
Changing the time has long been a strategy to take advantage of daylight, thus saving energy and making the most of sunlight.
However, in the United States, there has been an attempt to change this long-established practice, legislated by section 110 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
In 2022, the U.S. Senate attempted to permanently establish DST through the bipartisan Sunshine Protection Act bill.
And although the Senate approved it unanimously, the House of Representatives did not, and the two-time schedules remain in effect with the aforementioned exceptions.
