Cuba Reaches One Million Foreign Visitors at the Most Opportune Time: Why?

Developing the tourism industry is the great aspiration of the authorities in Cuba, who invest with blind faith in the leisure sector.

Over the years, they have created a broad hotel infrastructure that, while not linked to other vital sectors of the economy and social development as a main economic line, does have the capacity to accommodate a high number of tourists.

As of April 26th this year, the number of foreign visitors reached one million. This was stated on his official X account (formerly Twitter) by Juan Carlos García, Minister of Tourism in the Greater Antilles.

The news rekindles the desire of tourism workers to achieve the results they had before the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic, when they achieved similar figures by April.

The news has been well received by international media and travel specialists. This impact is celebrated by Cubans as the news has resonated in the regions from which Cuba aims to attract high volumes of tourists this year (Caribbean, Europe, Asia).

The international media spotlight had already been on the Island’s tourism for a few days, as important representatives of the industry have been received, and there are only a few days left until the start of the 42nd International Tourism Fair FITCuba 2024.

In Cuban territory are the Secretary-General of UN Tourism, Zurap Polilikashvili, and the Director-General for the Americas of the same organization, Gustavo Santos.

Both global industry representatives arrived to celebrate the 69th Meeting of the Regional Commission of UN Tourism for the Americas, which will take place in the well-known tourist hub of Varadero, in the province of Matanzas, a few days before the start of FITCuba.

This international event is the main beneficiary of the good news of the million visitors to the Island. With a good boost, management, and negotiations in the context of the event, they will achieve all the linkages to reach the goal of 3.5 million visitors to the Caribbean island.

The main sources of international tourism to the Island focused on are Canada, Russia, the United States, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and the United Kingdom.
