Stimulus Checks in the U.S.: What to Do If You Haven’t Received Your $1500 Refund in This State?

As part of a tax refund linked to tax returns filed for 2021, the state of Arizona is issuing stimulus checks.

If you haven’t received your check yet or want to know if you’re eligible for this financial benefit, we’ll tell you if you qualify as a beneficiary, the payment amount, how you can track your check, and other details of interest.

What is this tax refund about?

Families in Arizona who filed a tax return with at least one dollar in 2021 can access these checks. This refund is not subject to state taxes but is subject to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

According to statements by Governor Katie Hobbs, this program aims to help Arizonans reduce their cost of living and support their families. It is estimated that the issuance of the checks will benefit around 700,000 households in this state.

Eligibility requirements for these stimulus checks:

If you meet these parameters, then you are a beneficiary of the tax refund program:

  • Residency in Arizona during the year the tax credit was claimed.
  • Claimed at least one dependent tax credit in the fiscal year 2021 tax return.
  • Filed a personal income tax return in Arizona in fiscal year 2021 as a single taxpayer or primary taxpayer in the case of a joint return.
  • Had at least one dollar of Arizona personal income tax liability in fiscal years 2019, 2020, or 2021.

What is the amount of the monetary refund?

Firstly, it’s important to note that a taxpayer cannot claim more than 3 dependents. Therefore, the maximum refund amount is $750 for singles, heads of households, or married filing separately.

For married taxpayers filing jointly, the maximum amount is $1500.

Accordingly, beneficiaries with dependents under 17 receive a refund of $250 for each, while beneficiaries with dependents over that age receive a payment of $100 per person.

Thus, to obtain the maximum amount of $1500, there must be 6 dependents under 17 in the family of the married taxpayer: three dependents by the taxpayer and three by their spouse, who do not necessarily have to be children of both.

How is the refund procedure carried out?

The Arizona Department of Revenue has begun mailing the stimulus checks to taxpayers who did not provide direct deposit information, sending them to the last address provided by them, also considering their Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

On the other hand, those who did provide details for direct deposit when filing their 2021 or 2022 returns are receiving it in this way since last January.

How can I track the status of my stimulus check if I haven’t received it yet?

If you qualify as an eligible candidate and have not yet received your check, you can track the status of it to know the details of the procedure. In such cases, you should access this site to determine the current status of the tax refund, as well as to report any address changes or make a claim.

An important element to consider is that the delivery delay period is subject to the date the corresponding tax return was filed, and it also depends on whether it was filed digitally or on paper, as the latter mode takes much more time than usually scheduled.
