Miami Airport Evaluates Opening CBD Store for Travelers

Due to the growing interest and demand from people to manage stress and anxiety in places where these behaviors are highly generated, Miami International Airport is launching an innovative proposal for its visitors.

It involves the opening of a retail store specializing in the sale of cannabidiol (CBD)-based products, one of the components of the cannabis plant, known for its non-psychoactive properties.

This initiative is part of the multimillion-dollar investment announced by the city council to improve the facilities at Miami International Airport. If realized, serums, edibles, supplements, and topical treatments, as well as sprays and beauty products, would be offered.

According to specialists, the choice of this product for therapeutic purposes is due to its high potential in treating conditions such as anxiety, inflammation, pain, and various types of seizures.

This cannabis retail store, as reported by the Miami Herald, would sell products made with hemp, especially those with a high content of CBD.

Donald Trump enacted the USDA Improvement Act in 2018, which legalized hemp and its derivatives at the federal level, provided the psychoactive ingredient delta THC was present in no more than 0.3% of the products.

CBD stores offer products like gummies, creams, and serum, always highlighting the calming property of each of these products. According to Miami Airport, this feature will be attractive to stressed and anxious travelers.

The draft of the request published on the Miami-Dade county website says: “Stressed, anxious travelers, and those focused on their well-being are the target market for this store.”

The proposal to premiere this store has caused discontent among some people. Senator Bryan Dávila criticized the initiative, expressing:

“A request for the CBD retail store gives even more the impression that the county mayor, the county administration, and the airport director simply cannot prioritize and address the challenges facing Miami International Airport.”
