With over 3 million views on Instagram in just 2 days, Chef Dailis’s Cuban Pizza recipe from @RecetaCubana has gone viral.

It’s a dish that Cubans and many others around the world have adopted as their own wherever they are and serves as an option to replace some meals or for special days.

The chef’s suggested preparation is quite basic, so it might be easy for you to make at home and share with family who will surely enjoy this dish that offers variations based on what you have on hand.

Just follow the instructions, and you’ll get a delicious pizza with crispy edges.

What are the ingredients for Cuban Pizza?

To prepare the Cuban Pizza dough, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 280g or 2 cups of all-purpose common wheat flour
  • 200ml of water
  • 6 grams or 1 packet of instant dry yeast
  • 25g or 2 tablespoons of sugar (brown sugar can also be used)
  • 15 grams or about 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • Cheese
  • Ham (this ingredient is optional)

How is the Cuban Pizza dough prepared?

First, mix the water, which should be lukewarm, between 80 to 100 Fahrenheit or 26 to 37 degrees Celsius.

To the lukewarm water, add the two tablespoons of sugar and the yeast, then let it rest for 10 minutes.

While it rests, pour the flour, salt, and oil into a bowl, preferably glass, and mix them. After 10 minutes, add the yeast mixture.

Mix well with a spatula, then it’s time to knead, which will take about 5 minutes. This step should be done on a smooth, clean surface.

After kneading, place the dough in a previously greased container, cover it with a cloth, and let it rest for an hour until it doubles in volume.

After this time, punch it down to expel the air, then divide the dough into two to four portions, depending on the number of diners, the size you want to give them, or the capacity of your molds.

Take each portion and stretch it with your fist until it reaches the edges of the mold, and add tomato sauce, cheese, and ham in generous portions. If you wish, you can also add vegetables like onions and peppers.

Cuban Pizza Cooking Time

Once the molds are ready with the complete preparation, bake for 15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.

Here are the Cuban pizza molds recommended by Dailis.

This step is very important: increase the temperature to 200 degrees Celsius for the last 5 minutes of baking to ensure the edges are crispy.

You’ll notice that in this time, the cheese will be melted, and the pizza will also cook from below.

And there you have it, the Cuban Pizza in the style of Chef Dailis from @RecetaCubana, which has understandably gone viral with over 3 million views on Instagram.
