A Cuban movie will be among the competitors at the 27th edition of the Málaga Film Festival.
The promoters of the event announced on their official site that a film from the island will be among the 19 contenders for the award given by the event.
La Mujer Salvaje, the debut film by director Alan González, is a 2023 Cuban fiction work starring Lola Amores as Yolanda, “a Cuban woman, goes from dancing with her heart at a house party to racing against time to find her son and leave the city once a video of that gathering circulates that seems to incriminate her”.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and later won at the Ceará Film Festival in Brazil awards for Best Film, Best Sound, and Best Leading Performance.
It then competed in the Latin American Film Festival and won the Special Jury Prize in the Debut Film category.
With this background, which could predict excellent results, it will now be one of the 19 works, 15 Spanish and 8 Latin American, to compete in the event to be held between March 1st and 10th.
The film festival, which will take place for the twenty-seventh annual time this 2024, will, as usual, showcase the most important annual premieres in Spanish cinema, including documentaries and short films.
It has gradually gained international prestige and currently includes audiovisuals from other parts of the world, including Cuba.
Previously, Cuban films have participated in the same event, including Sergio & Serguéi, Los buenos demonios, La mujer animal, El otro hermano, and Últimos días en La Habana by director Fernando Pérez, which in 2017 won several awards such as Best Latin American Film and the Audience Award.
