More Business Opportunities in Agriculture between the United States and Cuba

Cuba and the United States are looking to establish more business opportunities in the agricultural sector, as confirmed by an expert American association.

NASDA Delegation Visits Cuba

A group of American officials from the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) in the northern country have been in Cuba for several days to address the issue.

During their stay on the island, they meet with government officials, industry leaders, and the private sector, in search of future collaborations.

Ted McKinney, Executive Director of NASDA, along with members of the association, an industry representative, and Paul Johnson, partner of FocusCuba, are responsible for driving the purpose.

Press Conference on Agricultural Trade

Among the scheduled activities is a press conference where the topic of opportunities and challenges learned for agricultural trade between both nations will be addressed.

The press conference will take place on February 21 at the Grand Aston Havana Hotel starting at 4:30 p.m.

Historical Context and Previous Meetings

This is not the first time that meetings aimed at establishing strategies for doing business with Cuba in the agricultural branch have been held.

In April 2023, the IV Agricultural Conference between the United States and Cuba was held at the same Havana location.

In that meeting, American representatives expressed their desire to strengthen commercial ties with the island, advocating for normalized relations between both nations.

NASDA’s Mission and Agricultural Exports

As part of its mission, NASDA continues to work for agricultural sector policies to benefit all people and regions.

Despite policies and restrictions, this is precisely one of the sectors driven in exports from the United States in 2023, reaching more than $342 million dollars, a 14.8 percent increase over 2022.
