Small World, a remittance agency valued for its low fees, has announced on its official website the temporary suspension of its money transfer services to Cuba. The suspension is attributed to a “banking incident,” and the agency has assured that services will be restored as soon as the issue is resolved.
This news adds to the confusion among customers of this and similar remittance platforms like Western Union and others based in the United States, which have also suspended their services until existing difficulties are resolved.
In recent weeks, several agencies have faced challenges due to complaints from some customers whose deposits have not been credited to their personal accounts.
The Cuban financial entity responsible for processing these transactions, Fincimex, has assured money senders from other countries that they could cancel their transfers at any time without losing the amount.
Customer service has responded to complaints on social media about tirelessly working to solve the issues, but so far, there has been no resolution. Instead, they have cited tests of banking integration and the connection of transfers with bank accounts, asserting that payments have begun, albeit slowly.
Typically, a deposit could take up to three days through the agency, requiring various personal details of the beneficiary such as full name, a contact telephone number, and an AIS card with a 16-digit number formatted as follows: 956001XXXXXXXXXC.
Beneficiaries must always be the holders of AIS cards or other cards that could also be used for such purposes, like the MLC card from Metropolitano, Popular Savings (BPA), or Credit and Commerce (BANDEC) banks.
