A Spanish tour operator announced that it will soon open a new direct air route to the island.
This is Enjoy Travel Group (ETG), an Iberian vertical wholesale tour operator, who reported on the implementation of this new flight that will connect the capitals of both countries.
According to Luis Jiménez, vice president of marketing and sales at ETG, the route will be operational between June 29 and September 7.
From that initial date, Madrid and Havana will be connected with the operations of a Plus Ultra company’s A330-200 aircraft, which could transport up to 288 passengers, of which 24 can travel in Business Class.
This decision is the result of previous announcements made in January during the International Tourism Trade Fair 2024 (FITUR) in Spain, where they announced the future expansion of air operations to Cuba.
The deal now takes on a much more consolidated nuance as it also foresees the linking of different Iberian provinces with the Spanish capital through high-speed trains from companies like Renfe or Iryo, and from there the connection with flights to the island.
This arrangement will benefit Asturias, Catalonia, Galicia, Valencia, and Andalusia, a fact that will also benefit the Meliá, Iberostar, Blue Diamond, and Kempinski hotel chains.
The new initiative will be implemented during the summer stage and is expected to be as successful as previous routes during those dates from Barcelona.
